People, this is a historic time in the politics of America. Walls are crumbling down as we speak. The unimaginable is not only being imagined, but is inching closer to actually becoming realized. We are waking up to the dreams that have long slumbered within our Democracy. For the first time, in the life of this great nation, a white man over the age of 70 may be elected President of these United States.
Sure, we’ve had presidents over 70 while serving their term, but we’ve never had one elected and inaugurated who’s already cracked the seven decade mark. What an amazing time to be alive. It only serves to reinforce America as the land of opportunity, where anything is possible.
Imagine that, an old white man being president of the United States. It sends shivers down my spine. To think of the fresh perspective our first septuagenarian can bring to the Oval Office. I thought I’d never live to see the day a white-haired white man was in control of the most powerful position in the world.
Just think of all the newfangled ideas an old white man can bring to the presidency. Having grown up and lived for seventy-one full years of whiteness. Seeing how he was treated, the obstacles he was forced to overcome, the burden he was bound to bear simply because of the color of his skin. It’s a wonder a white man has made it as far as this position of presumptive prominence at all.
We’ve elected white generals, we’ve elected white senators, and we’ve elected white governors as President. We’ve elected white Protestants and white Catholics too. We’ve elected white fathers and their white sons, we’ve elected a pair of white cousins, and we’ve elected a real life white movie star. We’ve elected white Northerners, white Southerners, white lefties, white righties, white Republicans, white Democrats, white Whigs and even a white guy named Millard. But, we’ve never, I mean never, elected a white guy over 70. It’s an exhilarating precipice on which we stand.
We have the chance in this election to do something truly unique. Truly unprecedented. To send a message to the entire world. That we Americans are not afraid of change. That we are willing to elect someone with original ideas, a different approach, and an unfamiliar background to lead us into unfamiliar ground. That we can look past what’s on the outside and have the courage to elect an old, old white man. This is our time, America.
