With so much conflict and strife in these troubled times, from Wisconsin to the West Nile, it is refreshing to know there is a section on msnbc.com called Wonderful World. Or http://on.msnbc.com/D2WIi if you wanted to cheerily tweet it out. There is no description on the site to tell us what it is about, but one can assume it is stories that make us feel wonderful to live in this world. So, let’s take a look at a few of them, and start feeling great.
Like this! A puppy in Sulfur, Oklahoma survived an attempt to euthanize it and now hundreds of people want to adopt the plucky puppy. According to the story, “The puppy was one of five stray dogs that Sulphur animal control officer Scott Prall put to sleep Friday — or so he thought. Prall found one of the dogs alive Saturday in a trash bin set aside for dead animals and took it to veterinarian technician Amanda Kloski.” What a wonderful story! Especially for those 4 dead puppies. They must be rolling over in their trash bin in delight. Apparently, all dogs don’t got to heaven, some go to the dumpster.
Guess what! A man in Maudlin, South Carolina was on his way to cash in a $200,000-winning lottery ticket when he stopped to buy another one, and won an additional $10,000. That’s so wonderful! Some other guy is now rich! Some person, not me, got lucky on a scam! Some compulsive gambler now has money to blow! I feel so happy for him.
Talk about a great story. John Kavenaugh, a homeless man in West Chester, PA found an envelope on the ground stuffed with $1,440 and immediately turned it in to local police, without a penny missing. The money turned out to be Robert Stauffer’s, an attorney who was planning to use the money to get some mortgages recorded, and now plans to make a donation to a homeless shelter that Kavenaugh frequents. Isn’t that wonderful? Except for John Kavenaugh, who remains homeless. If only he had a good radio voice. Stauffer, on the other hand, apparently has mortgages, plural. What a wonderful world.
Oh man, here’s a doozie. A bride-to-be in Christchurch, New Zealand was trapped beneath the rubble of her office building after an earthquake and texted her husband the whole time until he rescued her. Now that’s a bridezilla. You better fucking pull me out of these rocks, I already bought a dress. I don’t care if 163 people are dead, they weren’t on the guest list, start digging. If you don’t get me out of this debris, so help me god, I will never have sex with you again on the other side.
How about this. A homeless man in New York was reunited with his estranged daughter after 11 years when he posted a message on Twitter. Man, these days sure are wonderful for the homeless. But the story gets even more wonderful. The daughter was living in a domestic abuse shelter! In Brooklyn! Which is like so close by. Now all he has to do is beg enough money for a metro card and he can see her anytime he wants. I smell a whole new set of daddy issues!
Finally! A baby hippo was Born in a Swedish zoo, but his mother refused to feed him, and so zoo staff stepped in and managed to milk the mother hippo and the baby survived. Now that’s wonderful. I’m sure the mom is thrilled. After all her attempts at hippo abortion failed, she tried to pull off some hippo negligence, but now is forced to care for this hungry hippo baby. The rest of her hippo life is ruined. She wanted to go to hippo college. Have a hippo career. She had a bright hippo future. But now she just had to waddle around in the water and look after this little bastard hippo she never wanted in the first place. Talk about hippo-cracy.
So see people, even when it seems like things are at their worst, when war is raging and politicians are fighting, when nations and celebrities are falling to pieces in front of our very eyes, when budget shortfalls are falling both short and long, it’s good to know that we really, truly do live in, like Louie said, a Wonderful World.
